Introducing Windsor Locks FCU Debit Card Overdraft Service

Being unable to pay for a purchase is a situation nobody wants to find themselves in. Windsor Locks FCU is introducing its new Debit Card Overdraft service to debit card holders at the credit union to help prevent those moments. 

This service is only for debit card transactions and ATM withdrawals. Checks, ACH, or any other form of transaction at Windsor Locks FCU are not covered by this service. Click here to read about our Overdraft Line of Credit for more information on covering overdrafts from other transactions.

What is an Overdraft?

An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction. Some forms of protection against overdrafts include using a line of credit or a savings account to automatically transfer money to cover payments.  

What is Debit Card Overdraft?

Debit Card Overdraft is an optional service available to debit card holders at the credit union. This is a final-line-of-defense setting where if a cardholder does not have enough money to cover their purchase or payment they can choose to let the credit union cover the transaction. All other forms of overdraft protection available on the account, including an Overdraft Line of Credit or a transfer of money from the savings account, will take priority so this would only take place if all other resources were used up.

Please note that Windsor Locks FCU pays overdrafts at its discretion. Authorization is not guaranteed and a transaction may still be declined. 

What fees will be charged if Windsor Locks FCU pays my overdraft?

  • The credit union will charge a fee of $35 each time it pays a debit card overdraft.
  • If the account remains overdrawn for 5 consecutive days there will be an additional fee of $2 per day starting on the 6th day.

What do I do if I want Windsor Locks FCU to authorize and pay overdrafts on my debit card transactions?

If you want the credit union to authorize and pay overdrafts on debit card transactions you may complete the form found here and return it to the credit union by mail or by dropping it off.
